There are three stages of UPSC CSE.
- Preliminary examination
- Mains examination
- Personality test
Details Of UPSC CSE
In the prelims examination of UPSC CSE, there are two papers of 200 marks each and there are two hours for the candidates to solve each paper.
In the first paper of UPSC CSE prelims, there are questions from different subjects like History, Polity, Geography, Economy, International Relations, Current Affairs etc.
The second paper of the UPSC CSE prelims examination is known as the CSAT paper. There are a total of 80 questions in the CSAT paper of UPSC CSE prelims.
The second stage is known as the UPSC CSE mains examination and this stage is very hard to clear as there are lots of subjects available for this examination.
There are four papers on general studies, two optional papers, one essay paper and two language papers.
Among the two language paper there are one compulsory English language paper and aspirants can choose any language which is mentioned in the 8th schedule of the constitution as their second language paper.
After completing the mains examination aspirants has to appear for the personality test of the UPSC CSE.
Marks For Each Paper
UPSC CSE Prelims – 1st Paper 200 marks and 2nd paper 2000 marks
UPSC CSE Mains – 4 General Studies paper 250 marks each
2 optional paper 250 marks each
One essay paper 250 marks
Two language paper 300 marks each and this two language papers are qualifying in nature
275 marks for the personality test.
In total UPSC CSE mains contains 2025 marks (1750 mains + 275 Personality test)
